One of our most-loved brands at Vickerey, Verve came to life in 1988 as a small climbing-related clothing company in Boulder, Colorado. Founded and designed by climbing legend Christian Griffith, Verve clothing is 100% made in the US and created with performance as a first priority. In addition to fantastic products, we like Verve because they’re fun and true to themselves.

Named after a difficult climbing route Christian put up near Boulder, Verve had meager beginnings within the climbing community at first, yet grew in popularity with every chalkbag and pant sold. To this day, Verve is dedicated to the creation of “clothing as equipment” that puts function and durability first.

In the late 1990’s, Christian met a “beautiful girl named Leda and her ‘climbing pants’, the pajama pants of her father,” which became the template for Verve’s now world-famous women’s Leda Pants. This pant is simply a must-have for yoga, hiking, climbing, lounging, and more. If you go into a Yoga or Pilates class in Boulder, at least half the women will be wearing this. If you go on a hike here, you’ll see more Leda pants than anything else. Why? Well, in a place like Boulder, where serious athletes abound, they demand the best of function and form.

As the interest in yoga grew within the climbing community, and not long after the success of the widely popular Leda Pant, Christian discovered many male yogis were wearing the women’s Leda Short for yoga practice. Like a breath of fresh air, Christian developed the now-classic men’s Hanuman line of shorts, knickers, and pants (shop Verve Hanuman) that kept the functionality of the Leda that men liked, but had a more masculine look and fit. The result: perfect yoga clothes for men. Verve’s menswear lines boldly connect the functionality of all Verve’s clothing with a hint of streetwear, all while staying sustainable and true to Verve’s roots.

Verve has evolved year after year while retaining its distinct allure of function, quality, and a hint of style in its clothing lines. Women and men, yogis and climbers, all love Verve for multiple reasons, but one that stands out for them all is the fact that Verve uses organic cotton is almost every product they create. Combining the sustainability of organic cotton with its naturally soft touch, Verve clothing literally embodies the company’s ideals without sacrificing functionality. As Christian puts it, “there is nothing sustainable about something disposable,” and he aims to keep Verve producing the highest quality garments with the best fabrics for active people the world around.
