From a feature in the New York Times to magazine covers, Phat Buddha seems to be all over the media these days! With a knack for designing comfy, hip workout wear that fits almost all sizes, the brand is one of the most innovative and exciting collections in the yoga market . Founder Alissa Benishai has created a fun, urban aesthetic that has a growing fan base, including Madonna, Tracey Anderson, and Kourtney Kardashian . From fabulous-fitting seamless basics to best-selling glitter bra tops and capris, our customers cannot get enough of this fresh, inspiring collection of yoga wear.

We recently had the pleasure of spending a few moments with Alissa as she was navigating the streets of Miami. Her high-spirited, 100 mile per hour energy takes multitasking to a new level and is inspirational and exciting. We wanted to share with you the goings on at her New York-based company.

1. It has been so much fun carrying your collections over the past two years! Being from New York, I personally love the names of each of your styles! Any idea of which city you would use if you utilize all of New York?

I would say London. Phat Buddha is highly recognizable across the globe, especially in the UK. Our most popular customer base has been in London, the forefront of international fashion and Matilda’s home (smiley)

2. Along with the names, the fabrics you have used are innovative and unique to Phat Buddha. Can you tell us what goes into your decision making progress when choosing fabrications for your designs?

Comfort and durability come first, then design and fabrics. We pride ourselves with how innovative and couture minded our seamless pieces are. The fabrics we choose for Phat Buddha can be recognized by touch alone.

3. You have expanded into the men’s activewear and beyond; what inspired you to venture into these markets?

A children’s line has definitely popped onto our radar; where there is demand, we supply. This Spring/Summer 16 we have introduced a more detailed and innovative full Men’s Collection and a merchandised Children’s selection !

4. What sets you apart from other athletic brands in the market?

We are a one size for all, seamless fashion focused lifestyle brand.

5. Tell us what you would describe as your “perfect” morning? What activities does this include?

Coffee, Pray, Sweat, Meditate, Work, Supervise, Give Back, Repeat. My days are never complete without finding someone to give back to or mentor…i t is not all about the icing.

6. If you could dress anyone, who would it be?

Joan Rivers, RIP, the fashion police, why not?

7. Where do you go to escape when not working?

To the halls of the Manhattan School of Music to sing.

8. Anything exciting coming up for the Phat Buddha brand? Collaborations or expansion into more markets?

Only time will tell; you are just gonna have to wait and see.. Stay tuned!
