WINTER is the most challenging season of all. Colder temperatures, lack of light, lower humidity and dry, many times over-heated indoor environment of our work place and/or homes make it difficult for any skin to survive not to mention dry and sensitive to begin with.

Skin acts as a temperature regulator thus it is constantly ‘tested’ as we move from the cold, dry and windy outdoors into dry and hot indoors.

This creates imbalance in the skin, since frosty weather not only robs our skin of moisture, but it undermines its production of sebum as well.
Double whammy here!

What to do you ask?

First and foremost;
INSTALL bath and shower filters in your home to take away chlorine and calcium deposits from the water as it only further dehydrates our already dry skin.
DON’T take long, hot showers/baths. Extreme temperatures contribute to a significant loss of moisture. If you are very dry, flaky and/or sensitive it can be helpful to apply body oil on the skin before you get wet. I love the refreshing scent of My Hawthorn body oil. Its essential oils of lemongrass, rosemary, juniper berry and ylang ylang invigorate while a blend of avocado, sesame, safflower and sea buckthorn oils firm, invigorates and deeply nourishes. I personally like to preserve this precious blend by adding several drops of it into less luxurious oil like grape seed, jojoba, apricot to make it last longer.

Second, but even more important;
Is to EAT a diet rich in Omega 3, 7 & 9s. Vegetables such as Spinach, Kale, Brussel Sprouts, and Winter Squash all contain Omega 3’s. You can also sprinkle Flax or Hemp seed oils generously over your served food for extra nourishment every day of the week!

Taking oils internally has been a part of a healthy lifestyle and disease prevention for centuries in many cultures. My own parents diligently take their teaspoon of Sea buckthorn oil every morning to enhance the health of their heart, liver, hair/nails/skin. This keeps them extra hydrated and energized with the high dose of antioxidants A,C,E, Omega 3,7,9s and plethora of other phytonutrients.

Nevertheless, if we keep active in the winter months, taking oil solely internally would not be enough.

Even Cleopatra knew that well hydrated skin equals healthy and beautiful skin! WELL HYDRATED = BEAUTIFUL.
When soldiers during WW1 were so depleted that they were not able to take in food, they were massaged with sunflower oil to increase nutrient content in their bodies.
What we put on our skin DOES MATTER!
Enormous benefit of oils has been known to us for centuries.

I discovered MyHavthorn through one of my client’s friends who brought it to the US after her travels to her native Sweden during a particularly cold winter.

Living in NYC her skin was already weakened by poor air quality in the city and from the enduring daily a cocktail of cold, freezing winds and an unforgivingly dry, heated work and home environment.

my-havtorn-facial-oil-vegan-skincare-vickereyShe needed something to treat her red, itchy, flaky and irritated skin. She wandered into one of those cute, little shops. There she found MyHAVTHORN OIL.

The deep orange color tells a story of a pure, unadulterated concoction that still retains its nourishing ingredients, as they were not bleached out as many of the oils are in the manufacturing process.

Rich in Omega 3,6, 7 and 9 this beautiful oil serum will protect your skin during the wintertime like no other.
In the city, or the slopes of the mountains.

My clients swear by its potent protective and reparative quality. Stefanie I. W. said: “This is the only thing that helps me heal my dry, itchy skin in the cold weather.”
This genius mixture of avocado, sea buckthorn and argan oils works wonders on eczema, psoriasis and rosacea skin.
I love it for its purity, amazing grounding scent and its deeply reparative benefits.

Since I discovered MyHavthorn I no longer fear flaky, dull skin, cracked cuticles and lips nor dry, frizzy hair.

So GO AHEAD, see what oils can do for YOU.

Here are my suggestions to keep the glowing, healthy skin for avid outdoor enthusiast.

AM

1. Do not use a cleanser; just splash your skin with cool water to wake up.
2. Apply peptide or collagen serum over a slightly damp skin to absorb the moisture and firm and repair the skin.
3. Mix 2-4 drops of MyHavthorn Oil into the cream. Pat into the cheeks and massage the rest in an upward direction. Take another drop if desired, and press lightly into critical areas of the face, such as upper cheekbones, under eyes, naso-labial folds and between eyebrows. This double layer adds extra protection to those sensitive places that loose moisture faster than the rest of the face.
4. Finish with physical block SPF 30 or higher depending on the need and situation.  Don’t forget to take it with you. Sun reflects from the snow and ice surfaces and causes damage all year long especially in the high altitude.
5. Put on a HAND cream before you slip into the gloves. Your hands will reward you.
6. LIPS need a protection as well. Protect them with a lip balm with SPF.

1. Wash your skin with MyHavthorn Oil Cleanser in the evening. It will take out all the dirt, sweat, extra oil and/or make up from the face, yet it will protect and soothe the surface of the skin. Massage a little to get all of the sunscreens particles out of the pores.
2. Follow with a hyaluronic, Vit. C, kojic acid, collagen serum depending on the condition of the skin that you are addressing at this time be it dehydration, dullness, hyperpigmentation or laxity.
3. Mix 2-3 drops of MyHavthorn face oil with your face cream. Once you run out of your face cream, try to combine MyHavthorn cream and oil. This combination is one of the most potent, healing and reparative mixtures I found. It will soothe any redness in no time. Sunburns heal fast, skin feels immediately deeply nourished with a nice, matte finish. Once you’ll try it, you’ll fall in love with its healing abilities and it will become your favorite winter go to.
4. Soak your feet for 15 minutes in magnesium chloride rich water to relax and re-mineralize your body after an active day. Massage MyHavthorn body oil into the skin and seal it with a rich body butter to prevent cracked heals and dry callouses. I suggest Pre de Provence 100% Pure Shea Butter.

LAST, BUT NOT THE LEAST

Let’s not forget to drink plenty of liquids. Warm beverages such herbal teas are a smart compliment to our overall skin care regimen. Teas with antioxidants such as Rosehip, Hibiscus, white Jasmine tea or some cleansing and digestion supportive teas, Dandelion, Ginger, Nettle teas would be of a great benefit for ours and our skin’s well being and beauty.

HAVE A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY SEASON!
